David Weiss

DAVID WEISS

FLUTE

David G. Weiss, woodwinds/composer, performs on a wide variety of flutes and woodwinds from many parts of the world, as well as western flutes, saxes, and clarinets. He has performed on several hundred television commercials and films, motion pictures, albums, and new media/internet projects. Dave is probably best known for his association with Disney's "The Lion King", the Broadway musical, for which he served as co-composer and performer of the featured panpipe and wood flute music. Other highlighted credits include: Theater: "Riverdance on Broadway", and "Miss Saigon"; Films: "Infamous", "The Rookie", "The Alamo; Sundance award winning films: "No Way Out", "Why We Fight", "Teeth".

Dave has worked for, among others, the late Arif Mardin (w/ Michael Crawford of "The Phantom of the Opera"); Will Ackerman (founder of Windam Hill); noted composers Carter Burwell, Mark Mancina, and Phillip Glass, and Oscar winning film composer Rachel Portman.

Dave is also a composer. His composition "O'Riley's Grave" - performed by the ensemble Aureole - was released '07. He recently composed all the music for the 9 part TV series "Around the World in 70 Days" for german television.

Dave has been an enthusiastic user of recording technology since the 70s. He works out of his home studio in Brooklyn, whitewoodmusic. Dave is currently an advisor to the music industry and the American Federation of Musicians on technology, and the growing artistic and business opportunities for musicians via the Internet, FTP, and interactive media. He is a member of the American Federation of Musicians, and ASCAP.
