Errollyn Wallen has been described as ‘the renaissance woman of contemporary British music' (The Observer) and her music embraces the sounds and rhythms of the world around us. Her motto for her group Ensemble X – “we don’t break down barriers in music…we don’t see any” – speaks of her wide-ranging aesthetic and her virtuosic ability to encompass genres and to redefine forms, including those of orchestral, electronic and chamber music, ballet, opera, song, theatre and film. Errollyn has been commissioned by a huge range of performers and organizations including the BBC, the Royal Opera House, the Royal Ballet, the Philharmonia Orchestra, Welsh National Opera, Almeida Opera and the Hallé Orchestra. Her music is broadcast worldwide and as a performer (pianist and singer) she tours internationally. In 2007 she was awarded the MBE for services to music.
