GREGORY HESSELINK

CELLO

Gregory Hesselink performs as a member of the Naumburg Award-winning New Millennium Ensemble, Sequitur, the Locrian Chamber Players, New Band, VisionIntoArt, and is principal cellist of the Riverside Symphony. He has performed with many other chamber ensembles in New York, and also with the Mark Morris, Merce Cunningham and Nai Ni Chen Dance companies. He has premiered more than 100 works, including concertos by James Tenney, Daniel Weymouth and Ross Bauer. He has also been known to perform on other instruments including the tenor violin, tromba marina, electric bass, and numerous Harry Partch instruments. Performances have taken him throughout North America, Europe and Japan. As a soloist, he has performed with the Chautauqua Festival Orchestra, the Stony Brook University and Symphony Orchestras, the New Amsterdam Symphony, Sequitur, and the Sudwestrundfunk Sinfonieorchester. He has taught at Sarah Lawrence College and Princeton University and is currently on the faculty of Mannes College in the preparatory division, where he is also string department co-chair. During the summer he has taught at Yellow Barn, Kinhaven, the Third Street Music School and the Stony Brook Summer Festival amongst others. Currently he teaches each summer at Apple Hill in New Hampshire. Mr. Hesselink holds degrees from the Interlochen Arts Academy, the Eastman School of Music and SUNY Stony Brook where his primary teachers were Steven Doane and Timothy Eddy. Recordings can be heard on Nonesuch, Bridge, CRI, Koch, Innova, Wergo, Albany, PPI and Point Records. He has been at Monadnock Music since 2000, and is this year’s Monadnock Music-Apple Hill Center Music Fellow.
