Alison Hale
A member of the Portland (Maine) Symphony Orchestra since 1985, Alison Hale is also principal of the OperaMaine and Portland Ballet orchestras, and a member of the Berkshire Bach Ensemble. She is on the faculties of Mount Holyoke and Bennington Colleges and has previously taught at Amherst, Bowdoin, and Bates Colleges. A distinguished alumna award winner of Mount Holyoke College and Fryeburg (ME) Academy, Ms. Hale also holds MM and DMA degrees from the Manhattan School of Music. Other honors include the Kandell Fellowship for participation in the Tanglewood Institute where she was awarded the C. D. Jackson Master prize. She made her Carnegie Recital Hall debut in 1982 as winner of the Artists International competition and has toured the US, Europe, and South America as both a soloist and orchestral musician.
Jason Thomas Koerber
Jason is Director of Elm City Music and teaches Clarinet, Saxophone & Flute. He is a active local performer and has performed with Keene Chamber Orchestra, Ben Carr Music Project, Half Diminished Swing Band, Nouveau Swing, Jacksonville Blues Band, Keene Jazz Orchestra, Tom Foolery Band, Nines Band, the Pink Floyd tribute band Liquid Floyd, Raylynmor Opera Company, and The Monadnock Chorus & Orchestra. Jason has taught saxophone and clarinet at Vermont Academy, Saxtons River VT; The Putney School, Putney, VT; The Open Music Collective, Brattleboro VT; Peterborough Music, Peterborough NH; and Cheshire Music, Keene, NH. Jason has studied saxophone with Scott Mullett, Harvey Kaiser, Mario Bernardo & Craig Sylvern. He has studied clarinet with Richard Sanders & Mario Bernardo and flute with Robin Matathias.
Tara Novak
Multi-instrumentalist (violin, electric violin, Irish fiddle, viola, piano) and vocalist Tara Novak has been an active soloist and performer for more than two decades.
Trained classically with concert violinist Benny Kim at UMKC Conservatory (2001), she discovered in her early 20s when she moved to New York City that she wanted to focus on "music that made people dance" - folk music, pop music, rock music, improvisation, EDM, and musical theater. This led to fiddle camps with Darol Anger and Mark O'Connor, 5 years of study at Comhaltas Ceoltoiri in Dublin Ireland, and eventually a degree in contemporary orchestration and improvisation at Berklee College of Music (2013).
Tara has toured extensively as a soloist with Riverdance, Heartbeat of Home, the Three Irish Tenors, and Druid. Her guest appearances include a Boston concerto premiere with Bill Whelan (composer of Riverdance) and a special performance with hiphop/Irish dance/improv group Hammerstep. She has performed on stage with Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder, Evanescense, il Divo, Johnny Mathis, and Bill Bailey.
A passionate fan of theater, Tara has performed with countless musical theater productions, including the Browadway tours of the Lion King, Aladdin, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, Beauty & the Beast, Finding Neverland, and the Sound of Music. She has collaborated on new musical theater productions in NYC, Dublin (Ireland), and Boston, both as a composer/arranger and performer.
Closer to home, Tara and her husband Irish tenor Ciaran Nagle have a contemporary Irish folk band, Ishna, which they started in Dublin in 2009. In addition to festival and performing arts center appearances, Ishna was recently the guest artist for holiday pops concerts of both the Boston Civic Symphony and Symphony New Hampshire.
Mary Kay Robinson
Flutist Mary Kay Robinson has risen to national prominence as a versatile musician who has performed, recorded and toured with the Symphony Orchestras in Chicago, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Kansas City, Toledo and Cleveland, among others. …“dazzling virtuosity...a hugely talented soloist” critics heralded of her New York solo debut. She has been a featured soloist with the Southern Tier Symphony (NY), Cleveland Pops at Severance Hall, and the New Hampshire Music Festival Orchestra. She is the founder of the award winning mixed chamber ensemble, Panorámicos whose 3 CDs have garnered international critical acclaim. Ms. Robinson has performed with some of the nations premiere chamber musicians including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Music from Angel Fire, ChamberFest Cleveland and the New Hampshire Music Festival musicians.“soulful, haunting and charismatic”...“expressive, compelling individual”.
She has championed the commissioning of new solo and chamber works for Flute, Piccolo and Alto Flute, and can be heard on recordings by Polyhymnia, Hyperion, Azica, TelArc, and Albany Records. Ms. Robinson balances a career of performance, academia and arts leadership, she has served on the faculties of Cleveland Institute of Music, Ithaca College, Case Western Reserve University, the University of Akron, Franklin Pierce University and is Director of the Bascom Little Fund, a philanthropic trust.
David William Ross
David William Ross has performed throughout the United States and in Europe. Trained in both classical and jazz, he works across genres and brings a unique musical sensibility to his approach to the guitar. David frequently works closely with composers and other artists as well as dancers and choreographers. He has written music extensively for dance and other performance arts, creating music that is organic and piece specific. He has premiered much of his own work with dancers in venues such as The Patterson Theatre in Baltimore and the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge. His most recent commercial release for PARMA was released in January, 2017, a collection of the solo guitar works of Swiss composer Georges Raillard. David has also taught music theory, ear training, guitar, improvisation, and general art aesthetics, serving on the faculties of Fitchburg State University, Keene State College, The Vermont Jazz Center, Elm City Music, and the Concord Community Music School.

Classically trained and deeply versed in jazz improvisation DWR infuses all of his performances with a nuanced, detailed, and complex musicianship. He has performed throughout the USA from LA to Boston and regularly gives concerts as both a classical and as a jazz player in combos, chamber groups, and solo. As an advocate of new music and genre stretching, DWR is a frequent collaborator with composers and song-writers as well as dancers, choreographers, and visual artists. He has written and performed his own work for several dance companies including Dilettante Dance and IBIT, premiering work in venues from Baltimore's Patterson Theater to Cambridge's American Repertory Theater, to Brattleboro's Latchis Theater.
DWR's compositional work often explores the temporal dimension of music and challenges the listener's concept and perception of linearity and narrative. He has written for a variety of instrumentations and in many styles often mixing genres and pushing musicians to expand their sensibilities beyond stylistic conventions. Improvisation, aleatory, and graphic notation play a role alongside conventional writing, all of which stretch the performers and listeners alike to hear the music as it is, without a preconception or bias with regard to style.
DWR's work has led to an extensive working knowledge of the recording studio. As a means to capture and present music but also as an artistic tool in it's own right, DWR uses the studio to engineer and produce sessions for his own music as well as for others. He crafts organic and original recordings that elucidate the creative motive of the artist and present the artist's work with clarity and brilliance. He records in his own studio as well as on site to capture the sound of interesting and unique sonic spaces that offer acoustically distinct sounds.
DWR received degrees in guitar performance, music theory, and composition from Keene State College where he studied with guitarist/composer José Lezcano. He then earned degrees from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins where he served as teaching assistant to the renowned guitar program studying under the tutelage of Julian Gray. DWR later went on to study at the Thornton School of the University of Southern California where he studied guitar with Scott Tennant and composition with Chris Rozé. His jazz studies were with Draa Hobbs and Paul Bollenback; lute studies with Mark Cudek. Frequent lessons with Pépe Romero and Manuel Barrueco while at the Thornton School and Peabody, respectively.
David currently serves on the faculty of Fitchburg State University, the Concord Community Music School, and Elm City Music. He teaches music theory, ear-training, music history, art aesthetics, guitar, and improvisation. He has also taught courses at Keene State College and the Vermont Jazz Center. In addition, David does recording work for PARMA Recordings and works as a session/studio player specializing in new music and improvisation performing on nylon, steel-string, and electric guitars in both chamber/combo and solo settings.
Carol Wincenc
Hailed "Queen of the Flute" (New York Magazine) at the outset of her, now, brilliant 50 year career, flutist CAROL WINCENC was First Prize Winner of the (sole) Walter W. Naumburg Solo Flute Competition, as well as the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient from the National Flute Association, the National Society of Arts and Letters Gold Medal for Lifetime Achievement in Music, and Distinguished Alumni Awards from Manhattan School of Music and the Brevard Music Center. During the past two seasons she performed, recorded and gave masterclasses as an exclusive Burkart Flutes Artist in Beijing, Shenyang, Seoul, Warsaw, Prague, Venice, Nice, and Thessoloniki. In North America she performed as soloist and chamber musician from coast to coast, including Seattle, Phoenix, Dallas, Edmonton, Banff, Iowa City, Minneapolis, New Orleans, Tucson, Palm Beach, Sarasota, Philadelphia, Boston and her home city, New York. Recently she recorded an all Uebayashi album with the award winning Escher String Quartet, and video/audios in partnership with her collaborator/pianist Bryan Wagorn of the Metropolitan Opera. Most recently she and Mr. Wagorn performed to a sold out house at Weill Carnegie Hall for the "Naumburg Looks Back" series.
Delighting audiences for over four decades with her signature charismatic, high virtuosity and deeply heartfelt musicality, she has appeared as soloist with such ensembles as the Chicago, San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Detroit and London Symphonies, the BBC, Warsaw and Buffalo Philharmonics, as well as the Los Angeles, Stuttgart and Saint Paul Chamber Orchestras, the latter for which she was Principal and Solo Flute from 1972-77. She has performed in countless festivals such as Mostly Mozart, Aldeburgh, Budapest, Frankfurt, Santa Fe, Spoleto, Music at Menlo, Aspen, Yale/Norfolk, Sarasota, Banff and Marlboro. The muse of today's most prominent composers, Ms. Wincenc has premiered numerous works written for her by legends Christopher Rouse, Henryk Gorecki, Lukas Foss, Jake Heggie, Paul Schoenfeld, Tod Machover, Yuko Uebayashi, Thea Musgrave, Andrea Clearfield, Shi-Hui Chen and Joan Tower. In great demand as a chamber musician, Ms. Wincenc has collaborated with the Emerson, Tokyo, Guarnieri, Cleveland, Juilliard and Escher String Quartets, and performed with Jessye Norman, Emanuel Ax and Yo-Yo Ma.
A Grammy nominee, she has recorded for Nonesuch, London/Decca, Deutsche Grammophon, Telarc (Diapason D'Or Award), Music Masters (Recording of Special Merit with Andras Schiff) and Naxos (Grammophone Magazine "Pick of the Month with Buffalo Philharmonic). Ms. Wincenc created and directed a series of International Flute Festivals at the Ordway Theater in St. Paul, Minnesota, featuring such diverse artists as Jean-Pierre Rampal, Herbie Mann, Steven Kujala and the American Indian flutist, R. Carlos Nakai. She had the privilege of working directly with legendary music luminaries Aaron Copland, Olivier Messaien, Rudolf Serkin, Joshua Bell, Christophe Eschenbach, Loren Maazel, Michael Tilson Thomas, Philip Glass, Andre Previn, Paul Simon and Judy Collins, to name a few!
She is a member of the New York Woodwind Quintet and a founding member of Les Amies with New York Philharmonic principals Nancy Allen, harpist and Cynthia Phelps, violist. Ms. Wincenc continues more than a quarter of a century on the faculties of The Juilliard School and Stony Brook University having mentored and graduated countless rising, flute stars commanding principal flute positions in major symphony orchestras and university professorships. She is renowned for her popular series of etudes and flute classics, the "Carol Wincenc 21st Century Flute" published by Lauren Keiser/Hal Leonard Music Publishers (available on 'Amazon'). A long time resident of New York City, she is the proud mother of singer/songwriter Nicola Wincenc (Cavernsband.com). Carol Wincenc is a native of Buffalo, NY, and was raised in a deeply active, musical family, along with her two older sisters, and under the mentorship of her violinist father and symphony conductor, Dr. Joseph Wincenc, and pianist mother, Margaret Wincenc. Having concertized on five continents, Ms. Wincenc loves nothing more than "giving back" with her music-making to communities world wide.
