Monadnock Music in the Schools

As the academic season closes, Monadnock Music has brought music into schools throughout the region, performing Piazzolla’s Histoire du Tango and sharing the history and significance of Tango and Piazzolla’s work with children from kindergarten through high school.

Students were divided into smaller groups, k-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12, with multiple sessions at each school for an up-close experience of the music to foster engagement through questions, historic images of tango and interactive rhythm exercises. In all, around 1,000 students were reached at 6 schools.

The program was well received. Students of all ages were eager to hear the music and excited for Monadnock Music to return. Teachers and instructors also offered very positive feedback and particularly appreciated the quality of the performance, the engagement with the kids, and the choice of repertoire which offered a cultural perspective on the classical tradition. Many remarked on how well the students rose to the occasion when presented with serious concert music and expressed eagerness for the next.

If your school would like to participate please contact the Monadnock Music at 603-852-4345 or via email at info@monadnockmusic.org.
